The Center for Art and Urbanism (ZK/U), which opened in summer 2012, is an independent thought- and production space in the former Berlin-Moabit freight station and was founded by the artist collective KUNSTrePUBLIK. In addition to symposia, workshops, conferences, concerts, exhibition projects and regular events, such as the Moabit “food cinema” and the “goods market”, experimental formats are being tested for a wide variety of public interest. In the artist residence of the ZK/U, about 13 artists and urban researchers from all over the world live and work together. The ZK/U sees itself as a laboratory of intermedia and interdisciplinary activities that deal artistically and scientifically with the phenomenon of the city. Temporary thematic focus programs intensify the creative exchange along contemporary issues. The focus is on questions of spatial theory in urbanism: geography, anthropology, urban development, architecture and social sciences meet contemporary artistic positions from Context Art and Art of Intervention to Conceptual Art and Street Art.
