Since its opening on May 30, 2018 the Kulturmarkthalle has transformed an old empty shopping hall in East Berlin into a place of art and culture, encounter and exchange with currently 30 committed people. It is located near the Mühlenkiez, a high-rise district in which several thousand old Berliners have lived for several decades. At the same time, around 1000 newcomers have moved into the immediate vicinity since the end of 2015 and are beginning their new lives in Germany. The Kulturmarkthalle wants to be an interface, a space and place of experience. With its open concept, it is constantly evolving and open to impulses and needs of the environment. It can be an incubator of ideas and a neighborhood ballroom and gallery and open workshops. The KulturMarktHalle is yours, mine, our project and it is only as strong as the community that stands up for it.
